Porch & Front Door Canopies

Installation of a canopy over the door - important dimensions
Porch & Front Door Canopies

The canopy over the door will fulfill its function if we take care of its appropriate dimensions and location. It should be spacious enough to cover and provide freedom of movement for at least two people. It would be a good idea to cover the stairs as well. For these reasons, the minimum roof should be 2 m wide and 1.2 m overhang. If we decide on larger dimensions of the roof, e.g. with a projection of about 2.5-3 m, choose a transparent covering material, e.g. polycarbonate panels, which, thanks to their transparency, will not shade the entrance zone, often located from the north or north-east. Ready-made canopies fixed to the wall are also a good choice. Their installation will be facilitated by the included instructions and assembly elements. Depending on the type of roof, the scope of work may differ, but the key elements are common. The installation of the roof over the door should be preceded by making a template with the drilling locations marked. After applying such a template to the wall, we will be able to precisely determine the location of the mounting holes.

When designating the place for the roof, pay attention to the height at which the roof will be located. The roof should be mounted at a height of approx. 15 cm above the frame. This will ensure that, even when it is loaded with snow, it will not restrict the freedom of movement of the door leaf. To perform these tasks, you will need a spirit level, a ladder, a marker and a cardboard pad.
